Phillies Charities, Inc. Kicks Off Season of Giving by Announcing 2021 Community Heroes & Awarding $885,000 in Grants
To celebrate the start of the team’s season of giving, Phillies Charities, Inc. is excited to announce its 2021 Phillies Community Heroes and award more than $885,000 in grants to nonprofit organizations who provide vital resources to those in need. Recipients include 30 area charities who each received $20,000 in grants, with an additional $285,000 in grants awarded to Phillies community partners. Grants were provided in part from the support of fans who participated in the team’s auctions, raffles and memorabilia events held this past season.
“These remarkable organizations continuously step up to the plate to be there for those who need it most,” said Phillies Charities, Inc. President John Weber. “Thanks to our fans, we are able to help ensure that the much-needed services of our community heroes can continue to make a difference all year long.”
The team will continue its charitable fundraising efforts at the upcoming Phillies Charities, Inc. Mystery Bag Sale, featuring autographed items on sale at the Phillies Red Friday post-Thanksgiving event on November 26 at the New Era Phillies Team Store at Citizens Bank Park.
In addition, the Phillies are spreading holiday cheer by hosting several charitable events throughout December. Efforts include a holiday meal prepared by the Phillies front office for residents at The Bethesda Project’s “Our Brother’s Place,” a Phillies holiday party in partnership with the Police Athletic League for children at the Ford PAL Center in South Philadelphia, and a surprise Phillie Phanatic Toy Drop-Off to children and healthcare professionals at Nemours Children’s Hospital, Delaware. Phillies front office members will also participate in National Wreaths Across America Day, when they will take part in a local wreath-laying ceremony to honor and remember fallen veterans.
