BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox will celebrate Red Sox Hall of Fame Broadcaster Joe Castiglione in pregame ceremonies on Sunday, September 29, in recognition of his 42-seasons (1983-2024) in the broadcast booth, the longest tenure of any play-by-play announcer in franchise history.
Pregame ceremonies will include a proclamation from City of Boston Mayor Michelle Wu designating September 29 as “Joe Castiglione Day.” Ceremonies will feature Red Sox alumni spanning Castiglione’s career, including Hall of Famers Roger Clemens and Pedro Martinez, Red Sox Hall of Famers Dwight Evans, Rich Gedman, and Bob Stanley, as well as Joe Morgan, Jackie Bradley Jr., Brian Daubach, Lenny DiNardo, Keith Foulke, Rich Hill, Bob Montgomery, and Trot Nixon.
"Joe Castiglione has been the voice of the Red Sox for 42 seasons, there when the Sox broke the curse two decades ago in 2004 and beloved by generations of fans,” said Mayor Michelle Wu. “We’re proud to proclaim September 29 as Joe Castiglione Day in the City of Boston, honoring his contributions to the Red Sox, to Fenway Park, and to our entire city.”
In addition to the ceremonies celebrating Castiglione on Sunday, all fans are invited to run the bases after the game, an opportunity presented by L.L.Bean.
On Saturday, September 28, the 2024 Red Sox players will take photos with fans on the field from 2:15 – 3 p.m. before the Red Sox – Rays matchup at 4:10 p.m. Gates will open at 2 p.m. and staff will guide fans to the warning track, where they will take photos with players. Fans are asked to bring their own cameras. The photo session is weather permitting.
Throughout the final homestand, “Golden Tickets” will be placed beneath select Fenway Park seats for fans to receive exclusive items such as autographed memorabilia, tickets for the 2025 regular season, Red Sox gear, unique ballpark experiences, and a one-hour visit with the World Series trophies. Each Golden Ticket will be labeled by seat and can be redeemed with a matching ticket in the MLB Ballpark App. Additionally, seating locations will be selected at random to receive bobbleheads, L.L.Bean gift cards, Aramark food and beverage vouchers, as well as other prizes and giveaways.
