Yankees roster moves
Earlier today, the Yankees claimed OF Duke Ellis off waivers from the Seattle Mariners.
Ellis, 26, has hit .235 (56-for-238) with 41R, 5 doubles, 2 triples, 5HR, 32RBI, 24BB, 5HP, 3SF and 51SB in 75 combined games with Double-A Birmingham (39G), Triple-A Charlotte (2G), Double-A Binghamton (2G) and Triple-A Tacoma (32G) this season. The left-handed batter made his Major League debut in 2024, appearing in eight games for the Chicago White Sox. Over parts of four minor league seasons in the White Sox (2021-24), New York Mets (2024) and Seattle Mariners (2024) organizations, Ellis has hit .238 (225-for-945) with 159R, 32 doubles, 6 triples, 17HR, 83RBI, 107BB, 17HP, 6SF and 134SB. The Shreveport, La., native was originally selected by the San Diego Padres in the 20th round of the 2017 First-Year Player Draft out of Panola College (Tex.) but did not sign. He was then signed by the White Sox as a non-drafted free agent out of the University of Texas on June 19, 2020.
To make room on the 40-man roster, the Yankees transferred RHP Ian Hamilton to the 60-day injured list.
