Yankees acquire RHP David McKay from Tampa Bay
The New York Yankees today announced that they have acquired RHP David McKay from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for cash considerations.
McKay, 27, has posted a 6.08 ERA (26.2IP, 21H, 19R/18ER, 18BB, 34K, 4HR) in 26 relief appearances over two Major League seasons with the Seattle Mariners (2019) and Detroit Tigers (2019-20). In four minor league seasons, the right-handed pitcher has gone 18-11 with two saves and a 4.76 ERA (238.0IP, 239H, 138R/126ER, 91BB, 282K, 27HR) in 105 games (19 starts). He did not pitch during the 2021 season after undergoing hip surgery in April.
The Melbourne, Fla., native was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 14th round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft out of Florida Atlantic University. He was originally selected by the New York Mets in the 30th round of the 2013 First-Year Payer Draft out of Viera High School (Fla.), but did not sign.
