White Sox select pitcher Shane Smith in Rule 5 Draft
DALLAS – The Chicago White Sox have selected right-handed pitcher Shane Smith from the Milwaukee Brewers organization in the Major League phase of the Rule 5 Draft.
Smith, 24, went 6-3 with a 3.05 ERA (32 ER/94.1 IP), .204 (70-343) opponents average and 113 strikeouts (10.8 per 9.0 IP) over 32 appearances (16 starts) between Class AA Biloxi and Class AAA Nashville in the Brewers farm system in 2024. He posted a 2-3 record with a 2.96 ERA (22 ER/67.0 IP), .190 (45-237) opponents average and 74 strikeouts as a starter.
The 6-foot-4, 235-pound Smith has gone 13-7 with a 2.69 ERA (47 ER/157.0 IP), .200 (112-560) opponents average and 203 strikeouts (11.6 per 9.0 IP) in 73 appearances (19 starts) over three career Minor League seasons. He originally was signed by Milwaukee as a non-drafted free agent on July 27, 2021, out of Wake Forest University.
