White Sox place Michael Kopech on 15-day injured list; recall Yohan Ramírez from Triple-A Charlotte

BOSTON – Prior to tonight’s series opener at Boston, the Chicago White Sox placed right-handed pitcher Michael Kopech on the 15-day injured list with right knee inflammation and recalled right-hander Yohan Ramírez from Class AAA Charlotte.

Kopech, 27, underwent successful surgery this morning to remove a cyst from his right knee in a procedure performed at Rush Oak Brook Surgery Center by Dr. Nikhil Verma, White Sox lead team doctor. Full recovery time is expected to take between 6-8 weeks.

Kopech went 5-12 with a 5.43 ERA (78 ER/129.1 IP) and 134 strikeouts over 30 games (27 starts) this season, his fourth with the White Sox.

Ramírez, 28, went 1-0 with a 3.67 ERA (14 ER/34.1 IP) and 31 strikeouts in 26 relief appearances over three stints with Pittsburgh this season before being designated for assignment on September 1. He was claimed off waivers by the Sox on September 5 and made four appearances with Charlotte (4 ER/4.2 IP).

Ramírez, 6-foot-2 and 190 pounds, is 6-4 with a 3.83 ERA (51 ER/120.0 IP), six saves and 124 strikeouts in 97 career relief appearances over four major-league seasons with Seattle (2020-22), Cleveland (2022) and the Pirates (2022-23). He originally was signed by Houston as an international free agent on July 11, 2016.

Ramírez will wear uniform No. 48.
