White Sox give back with annual celebration of ‘Sox Serve Week’

CHICAGO – The Chicago White Sox announce programming scheduled for Sox Serve Week, the organization’s annual community outreach and fundraising campaign benefiting Chicago White Sox Charities (CWSC) and engaging Sox fans and the Chicagoland community.

Beginning Monday, June 24, through Saturday, June 29, Sox Serve Week invites current and former White Sox players, front office staff and fan volunteers to participate in various philanthropic events that give back to individuals and families most in need. Additionally, the campaign provides unique, fan-facing fundraising activities that support non-profit organizations and social service agencies sharing the CWSC mission to make Chicago a better place to live, work and play. Last season’s milestone 15th Sox Serve Week campaign raised more than $225,000.

“We’re beyond thrilled to have the support of coaches, players and fans to amplify our Sox Serve Week programming and continue making a lasting impact in our neighbors’ lives,” says Christine O’Reilly, White Sox vice president of community relations and CWSC executive director. “It’s such a remarkable and rewarding week that helps our team to continue year-round philanthropic giving. Each season, we collaborate with new, local organizations to introduce uniquely personalized Sox Serve Week initiatives that truly make a tangible difference in the community.”

This year’s programming includes:

Monday, June 24 – White Sox vs. Los Angeles Dodgers at 7:10 p.m. CT

Sox Family Members Visit Misericordia – White Sox players’ wives and girlfriends will visit Misericordia, a Chicago-based non-profit providing care and support for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, to assist in vocational training programs. Following gardening and art activities and helping in the Hearts and Flour Bakery, the group will take time to hear from Misericordia residents and learn more about additional volunteer opportunities. In the evening, the organization will welcome Misericordia staff to the ballpark’s Community Clubhouse Suite, presented by RUSH and Midwest Orthopaedics at RUSH, to enjoy the game. Tuesday, June 25 – White Sox vs. Los Angeles Dodgers at 7:10 p.m. CT

ACE Career Day – More than 40 student-athletes from the organization’s Amateur City Elite (ACE) and Team Teflon programs will shadow White Sox front office staff members in their respective sports careers. Offering insights and a behind-the-scenes look at professional opportunities ranging from scouting and analytics to marketing, public relations and community affairs, the event will provide perspective on several aspects key to the White Sox gameday experience.

Wednesday, June 26 – White Sox vs. Los Angeles Dodgers at 7:10 p.m. CT

Volunteer Corps Playground Build and Charities Day – In collaboration with the Roc Solid Foundation, more than 100 volunteers from the White Sox Volunteer Corps, presented by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois, will join scheduled White Sox players to construct three playground sets to be gifted to children and families battling cancer. In the evening, Charities Day returns simultaneous to the NBC Sports Chicago telecast of Wednesday’s game. Fans watching from home can choose from various donation levels to receive limited-edition gifts, such as mystery autographed baseballs and a Charities Day bag filled with additional White Sox swag. Back by popular demand, CWSC also will offer the fan-favorite opportunity to purchase CHI Jam T-Shirts, which feature funny, individually curated “character ratings” of White Sox broadcasters. Photos of the Charities Day T-Shirts are available here, with more information at whitesox.com/charitiesday.

Thursday, June 27 – White Sox vs. Atlanta at 3:10 p.m. CT

Employee Food Packing – Several players will join White Sox staff members to assemble support bags with food and other essential items for individuals served by local nonprofit Matthew House. For 30 years, this community-based organization has provided food, daytime shelter, permanent supportive housing, and supportive services to families and children who are at risk of, or experiencing, homelessness. Saturday, June 29 – White Sox vs. Colorado at 1:10 p.m. CT

Grant Day – The White Sox will recognize the 49 Chicagoland non-profit organizations receiving 2024 grant support through CWSC and the White Sox Community Fund, a McCormick Foundation (MF) Fund. Since last year’s celebration, CWSC made cumulative charitable donations of more than $6 million, moving the team’s non-profit arm to more than $47 million in cumulative funding. The organizations will gather for a special pregame ceremony, presented by Peoples Gas, with Hall of Fame great Harold Baines and 1983 American League Rookie of the Year Ron Kittle, before enjoying the game from the ballpark’s Upper Terrace.
