White Sox Agree To Terms On One-Year Contract With Outfielder Austin Slater
CHICAGO – The Chicago White Sox have agreed to terms on a one-year, $1.75 million contract with veteran outfielder Austin Slater.
Slater, 31, split the 2024 season between San Francisco, Cincinnati and Baltimore, batting .209/.321/.266 (37-177) with two home runs, 18 RBI and 24 runs scored in 84 combined games. He began the season with the Giants, was traded to the Reds on July 7 in exchange for left-handed pitcher Alex Young and traded to the Orioles on July 30 in return for future considerations.
Slater, 6-foot-1 and 205 pounds, is a career .252/.342/.385 (373-1,482) hitter with 40 homers, 171 homers, 210 runs scored and 48 stolen bases in 634 games over parts of eight major-league seasons with the Giants (2017-24), Reds (2024) and Orioles (2024). He has appeared in 230 games in center field, 158 in left, 151 in right, 29 at first base, one at second and one at third.
Slater, who bats right-handed, owns a career .271/.364/.429 (218-804) slash line with a .793 OPS, 102 walks and 25 of his 40 home runs vs. left-handed pitchers.
Slater originally was selected by San Francisco in the eighth round of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft out of Stanford University.
The White Sox 40-man roster increases to 39.
