White Sox acquire pitcher Juan Carela from the New York Yankees in exchange for pitcher Keynan Middleton

The Chicago White Sox have acquired minor-league right-handed pitcher Juan Carela from the New York Yankees in exchange for right-hander Keynan Middleton.

Carela, 21, is 2-4 with a 3.67 ERA (34 ER/83.1 IP), 109 strikeouts (11.8 per 9.0 IP) and a .214 (65-304) opponents average over 17 games (16 starts) this season with Class A Hudson Valley in the South Atlantic League. He is rated by MLB.com as the No. 29 prospect in the Yankees organization.

Carela, 6-foot-3 and 185 pounds, posted a 2.17 ERA (11 ER/45.2 IP) in May and June combined. He was named SAL Pitcher of the Week for the period of April 23 and struck out 10 batters in three consecutive starts from June 2-16.

Carela, a native of Samana, Dominican Republic, has gone 12-20 with a 4.79 ERA (141 ER/264.2 IP) and 319 strikeouts (10.9) in 64 games (56 starts) over four minor-league seasons after signing with the Yankees as an international free agent on July 2, 2018.

Middleton, 29, is 2-2 with a 3.96 ERA (16 ER/36.1 IP), 47 strikeouts, five holds and two saves over 39 appearances this season, his first with the White Sox after signing as a free agent on January 15.
