Umpires for the 2024 World Series presented by Capital One announced
Major League Baseball today announced the Major League Umpires who have been assigned to the 2024 World Series presented by Capital One. Mark Carlson, who has more than 25 years of experience as a Major League Umpire, will work his third career World Series, including his first as the crew chief of the Fall Classic. The Illinois native was a part of the crews that officiated the 2015 and 2020 World Series.
Carlson’s World Series crew features Doug Eddings, Chad Fairchild, Andy Fletcher, Mark Ripperger, regular season crew chief Todd Tichenor and Carlos Torres. It is the second career Fall Classic for Eddings (previous: 2019), Fairchild (previous: 2018) and Tichenor (previous: 2020); and the first for Fletcher, Ripperger and Torres. Tichenor will serve as the crew chief in Game Two while Carlson is off the field.
Placing seven umpires on the World Series crew allows for distinct home plate assignments in a potential seven-game series. One of the seven umpires will be off the field in each game. Major League Umpires Cory Blaser and regular season crew chief James Hoye have been assigned to Replay throughout the Fall Classic. All nine Major League Umpires assigned to the World Series, including Blaser and Hoye at Replay, worked the Division Series round of the 2024 Postseason. A complete listing of the World Series umpire rotation accompanies this press release.
The Dodgers-Yankees matchup is the 12th ever in the World Series, marking a renewal of the most frequent in Fall Classic history and the first since 1981. This is the first time since 1956 that the home run leaders of both Leagues will meet in the World Series, as Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani will do so for the first time since Hall of Famers Mickey Mantle and Duke Snider in a previous Yankees-Dodgers Fall Classic. It is also the first time ever that two players with 50-homer seasons will play one another in the World Series.
FOX Sports will present live telecast coverage of the Fall Classic for the 27th time, along with FOX Deportes and the FOX Sports App. All games telecast on FOX will be available to MLB.TV subscribers who are authenticated subscribers to the applicable network through a participating pay TV provider. ESPN Radio (English) and Univision Radio (Spanish) will provide exclusive live coverage of the World Series. MLB Network will have extensive studio coverage throughout the Fall Classic. The 2024 World Series will be broadcast by MLB international media rightsholders in 16 different languages in more than 200 countries and territories.
