Twins place Brent Rooker on the 10-day injured list
DETROIT, MI – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have placed outfielder Brent Rooker on the 10-day Injured List with a cervical strain. Rooker, who was recalled from the alternate training site on Saturday, played in three games, hitting .091 (1-for-11) with one RBI and six strikeouts.
To replace Rooker on the 26-man roster, the Twins have selected the contract of left-handed pitcher Brandon Waddell from the Taxi Squad. Waddell, 26, appeared in nine games for the Twins in spring training, going 1-1 with a 4.82 ERA (9.1 IP, 5 ER), four walks, 15 strikeouts, a 1.07 WHIP and a .188 opponent batting average. The Houston, Texas native was originally claimed off waivers by the Twins on October 30 from the Pittsburgh Pirates. The 6-foot-3, 180-pound lefty appeared in two games for the Pirates during the 2020 season, allowing one run on two hits in 3.1 innings pitched with two walks and two strikeouts. He will be available for today’s game in Detroit and will wear uniform number 58.
To make room for Waddell on the 40-man roster, the Twins have transferred right-handed pitcher Edwar Colina (right elbow inflammation) to the 60-day Injured List.
