Twins Place Max Kepler on 10-day Injured List

ST. PETERSBURG, FL – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have placed outfielder Max Kepler on the 10-day Injured List with left patellar tendinitis (retroactive to September 2).

Kepler, who was scratched from Monday’s lineup at Tampa Bay, has played in 105 games for Minnesota this season, hitting .253 (93-for-368) with 21 doubles, one triple, eight home runs, 42 RBI and a .682 OPS. This marks his second IL stint this season after missing 21 games in April with a right knee contusion.

To replace Kepler on the 28-man roster, the Twins have selected the contract of outfielder DaShawn Keirsey Jr. (pronounced KEER-see) from Triple-A St. Paul. The 27-year-old has played in 103 games for the Saints this season, hitting .292 (120-for-411) with 20 doubles, seven triples, 14 home runs, 75 RBI, 69 runs scored, 45 walks, 36 stolen bases, a .362 on-base percentage, a .477 slugging percentage and an .839 OPS; he enters today leading all Twins farmhands in RBI and is tied for the lead in triples and stolen bases. The San Diego, CA native was selected by the Twins in the fourth round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Utah and has played parts of six seasons in the Twins minor league system. The 6-foot-1, 195 pound outfielder entered the 2024 season ranked as the 23rd-best prospect, the best defensive outfielder and fastest baserunner among Twins minor leaguers by Baseball America. He will be in uniform for this afternoon’s game at Tampa Bay, looking to make his major league debut and will wear uniform number 89.

To make room for Keirsey Jr. on the 40-man roster, the Twins have transferred left-handed pitcher Kody Funderburk (left oblique strain) to the 60-day Injured List.
