Twins place John Gant on 10-day injured list
MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have placed right-handed pitcher John Gant on the 10-day Injured List with a left abdominal strain.
Gant, who was acquired by the Twins via trade with St. Louis on July 30 in exchange for J.A. Happ, has appeared in 12 games (5 starts) for the Twins this season, going 1-3 with a 4.73 ERA (26.2 IP, 14 ER), 11 walks and 32 strikeouts. He is 5-9 with a 3.76 ERA (103.0 IP, 43 ER), 67 walks and 88 strikeouts in 37 games (19 starts) overall this season.
To replace Gant on the 28-man roster, the Twins have recalled left-handed pitcher Andrew Albers from Triple-A St. Paul. Albers has appeared in four games (3 starts) for the Twins this season, going 1-2 with a 7.16 ERA (16.1 IP, 13 ER), seven walks and 10 strikeouts.
Additionally, left-handed pitcher Charlie Barnes will serve as the 29th man for today’s doubleheader against the Cleveland Indians. Barnes has appeared in six games (5 starts) for the Twins earlier this season, going 0-3 with a 6.59 ERA (27.1 IP, 20 ER), 11 walks and 13 strikeouts. He is scheduled to start the second game of today’s doubleheader.
