Twins officially unveil Target Field's new Scoreboard 2.0 project and Evolv fan screening technology

MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL, MN – Ahead of the club’s Thursday, April 6 Home Opener, the Minnesota Twins, in partnership with the Minnesota Ballpark Authority, today officially unveiled Target Field’s new “Scoreboard 2.0” project and Evolv Express® fan screening solution.

SCOREBOARD 2.0

The Twins’ most expansive renovation of their home ballpark since it opened in 2010, the “Scoreboard 2.0” project further enhances the Target Field fan experience by delivering best-in-class LED technology for the venue’s main and auxiliary videoboards and other digital displays, along with a pair of creative, interactive and signature elements: An updated “Minnie & Paul” Celebration Sign rising above the ballpark in centerfield, and a revolving, illuminated Baseball Medallion sitting atop the “Twins Tower” in the rightfield corner.

The $29.5 million project, which also replaced all previous videoboard control room equipment prior to the 2022 season, was funded equally by the Twins and the Minnesota Ballpark Authority’s Ballpark Capital Reserve Fund. Video displays were provided by Daktronics (including assembly at the company’s Redwood Falls, Minnesota factory), while the Minnie & Paul Celebration Sign and Baseball Medallion were designed and built by Dimensional Innovations. The project was executed as a design-build partnership between Mortenson and HGA.

VIDEOBOARDS AND DIGITAL DISPLAYS

Target Field now features 22 new LED displays totaling more than 13.1 million LEDs and more than 23,000 square feet – a 63% increase from 2022, a 113% jump from 2010 and among the most extensive in Major League Baseball (MLB). The project is highlighted by the main videoboard in leftfield, the auxiliary board in rightfield, the “Twins Tower” down the rightfield line and the seating bowl ribbon boards, among others.

Main Videoboard: 57’ high x 178’ wide (10,146 sq. feet) – 76% larger than previous and sixth largest in MLB

Resolution: 1128 lines x 3,552 columns – Among select few in MLB to be HDR capable

Auxiliary Board: 28’ high x 77’ wide (2,156 sq. feet) – 54% larger than previous

                                            Resolution: 828 lines x 2,304 columns

Other Displays: Twins Tower (74’ high x 33’6” wide; 2,479 sq. feet) – 21% larger

                                            Seating bowl ribbons (11 displays at 1,485 linear feet) – **21% increase**

Bullpen (8’6” high x 96’ wide; 816 sq. feet) – 54% larger

                                            Outfield fence (12’ high x 109’ wide; 1,308 sq. feet)

                                            Gate 34 entrance (43’ high x 17’ wide; 731 sq. feet) – **NEW**

MINNIE & PAUL CELEBRATION SIGN

A hallmark of Target Field since the ballpark opened in 2010, the new Minnie & Paul Celebration Sign imbues nostalgia with technological enhancements.

Design: Taking elements from the Twins’ primary logos from the 1961-86 seasons, the historical characters of Ray Barton’s original sketch are again depicted shaking hands across the Mississippi

River, while “Win! Twins!” completes the scene, which is framed within the Minnesota state outline.

Dimensions: 46’ high x 39’ wide (same as previous)

                                        17,280 pounds (11,700 pounds of which is the steel frame)

Handshake: Rather than the shifting light display of the prior iteration, Minnie & Paul’s handshake is now mechanical with moving arms.

LED Lighting: 1,203 linear feet of controllable, RGBW LED display, with 155 total LEDs.

                                        “Win! Twins!” is controlled independently; color scheme is customizable.

REVOLVING BASEBALL MEDALLION AND “TC” LOGO

Sitting atop the “Twins Tower” in rightfield, the combined effect of the new, luminous Baseball Medallion and the encased, illuminated “TC” logo creates a brilliant “Beacon to the City” and a focal point for Target Field, downtown Minneapolis and all Twins fans.

Design: The Baseball Medallion is technically a three-frequency geodesic sphere made up of icosahedron triangles – the higher the frequency, the more triangles there are. The more triangles it has, the

stronger and more spherical it becomes; the baseball rotates around an internal “TC” logo.

Dimensions: The baseball medallion is approximately 12’ in diameter.

                                        The internal “TC” stands 9’ tall.

                                        Total weight is 2,500 pounds (including its steel support).

LED Lighting: The baseball medallion has 60 programmable RGBW LED nodes, spaced equally at hub connections (there are 70 pairs of illuminated stitches).

                                        The “TC” is internally illuminated on both sides.
