Thousands of nurses to converge at Citizens Bank Park as Phillies & Temple Health honor healthcare heroes at Thursday’s game

In advance of Nurse’s Appreciation Week, the Phillies and Temple Health are teaming up to honor and recognize healthcare heroes in the nursing industry at ‘Nurses Night presented by Temple Health’ on Thursday, May 5, taking place before and during that night’s 6:45 p.m. game against the New York Mets.

“We invite our fans to tip their caps and join us as we recognize the 3,000-plus nurses from the region who will be at the ballpark in honor of Nurses Night presented by Temple Health,” said Phillies Vice President of Partnership Sales & Corporate Marketing Jackie Cuddeback. “Nurses are on the front lines and often the first point of contact for most patients, performing the most essential healthcare tasks. We want them all to know that they are heroes, and we’re excited for them to enjoy a much-deserved night at the ballpark.”

“We are pleased to team up with the Phillies to show our appreciation for the critical, excellent work that our nurses do day in and day out,” said Angelo Venditti, DNP, RN, Executive Vice President for Patient Care and Chief Nursing Executive at Temple University Health System. “We are extremely proud of our nurses and we thank them for their dedication and service.”

As part of the evening, outstanding nurses from the region will take the field to be recognized. Nurses from the area were also selected to have the honor of throwing that night’s ceremonial first pitches, changing bases in the 3rd inning, and dancing with the Phillie Phanatic in the 7th inning. Other highlights include a unique opportunity for fans to learn about nursing and career opportunities with Temple Health at the First Base Plaza or Section 144. Nurse leaders will be available for real-time interviews and will have the ability to make an offer on the spot. Temple Health is also offering sign-on bonuses ranging from $7,500 to $20,000. Nursing opportunities are located at Temple University Hospital – Main Campus, Fox Chase Cancer Center, Temple University Hospital – Jeanes Campus and Temple University Hospital – Episcopal Campus.

The special event also included a Theme Night Ticket offer for nurses (now sold out), featuring a Phillies scrub top giveaway.

OUTSTANDING NURSES TO BE RECOGNIZED ON-FIELD

Outstanding nurses from Temple Health will be recognized on-field prior to the game including:

• Helene Fink, RN, BSN, LPN, Temple University Hospital – Jeanes Campus, who will be throwing the ceremonial first pitch. Helene is a staff nurse in the Critical Care Unit and has been at Jeanes since 2008. She started as an LPN, then completed her BSN and is currently completing her MSN at Holy Family University. Helene is a member of the Nursing Council, has been a preceptor, a charge nurse and is known for providing excellent and compassionate care to her patients and their families. She is also the ultimate team player.
• Shellery Washington, RN, Temple University Hospital – Main Campus. Shellery works in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit and was recently awarded a DAISY Award. DAISY Award recipients are registered nurses who exemplify the nursing values: Extraordinary Compassion, Courage, Integrity, in every situation. These individuals consistently demonstrate excellence in the delivery of patient care and promotion of their professional nursing practice.
• Samantha Houck, RN, BSN, Fox Chase Cancer Center. Sam is a staff nurse who works in the Fox Chase Cancer Center’s Medical Oncology Unit. From planning a picnic lunch for a patient and his family to administering first time chemotherapy on a newly diagnosed cancer patient, Samantha is appreciative of the impact she makes as a nurse with the patients in our oncology community.
• Moses Torh, RN, BS, MBA, Temple University Hospital – Episcopal Campus. Moses has been a great asset to the Episcopal team, with a true dedication to quality patient care. He is a role model and poses a very positive outlook when patients are in a crisis by building their self-esteem and decreasing their anxieties.
• Marilyn Velazquez, LPN, Temple Physicians, Inc. Marilyn first joined the Temple Physicians team in 2013 as an office manager and now holds the title of Regional Manager, overseeing 10 ambulatory practices on a daily basis. Marilyn is a fierce Temple leader; she is not only creative but innovative. She leads by example and treats all patients, colleagues and staff as if they are truly members of her family extended. Marilyn always goes the extra mile and it’s rare to not find her smiling and laughing!
• Robin Millhouse, RN, Temple Faculty Physicians. Robin has been a change agent creating a process to improve the medical assistant workflow. She has partnered with her team to embrace change and has shown incredible leadership this year.
