Texas Rangers Youth Academy crowned All-Star Commissioner's Cup champions
Dallas— The Texas Rangers Youth Academy won its first ever All-Star Commissioner’s Cup championship today on Oates Field in a 14-0 run-rule victory over the P&G Cincinnati Reds Youth Academy.
This is the Rangers’ first Commissioner’s Cup championship title after finishing as runners up in 2023 and the first championship baseball team to come out of the Texas Rangers Youth Academy since the West Dallas facility opened in December 2017.
Centerfielder Jalen McLin received MLB’s Chevrolet MVP Award after finishing 3-3 at the plate with four RBI, two doubles, and two stolen bases. As the MVP recipient, McLin will receive an all-expenses paid trip to the 2024 World Series, where he will be recognized on-field.
To conclude the weekend of festivities, the Texas Rangers Youth Academy, and all participating Jennie Finch Classic and Commissioners Cup teams will attend tonight’s T-Mobile Home Run Derby at Globe Life Field.
Championship Game Notable Performances:
- Chevy MVP winner Jalen McLin finished the game 3-3 with four RBI, two doubles, and two stolen bases.
- Starting pitcher Kaleb Thompkins threw a scoreless complete game while striking out three batters and allowing just two hits.
- Braylon Hubbard, the Rangers’ youngest player at 14 years old, hit a three-run homer beyond the left field wall in the bottom of the third inning.
- As a team, the Rangers racked up 10 hits, six of which were for extra bases, and stole a combined six bases.
- Manager Dash Johnson and assistant coach Roger Ibarra led the team to a 4-1 record, including today’s championship.
