Designated hitter Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers has been unanimously voted the National League Player of the Month presented by Chevrolet for September, and outfielder Wyatt Langford of the Texas Rangers has been named the American League Player of the Month presented by Chevrolet for September, in addition to being named the AL Rookie of the Month for September. The announcements were made earlier today on MLB Network.

Ohtani earned his fifth career Player of the Month Award after previously winning four times as a member of the Los Angeles Angels in June 2023, June 2023, July 2021 and June 2021. It is the second award for the Dodgers this season after his teammate Mookie Betts won in March/April. Ohtani became the 25th player with at least five career awards and the 13th player to win at least one award in both leagues. Langford claimed his first career honor and is the first Rangers player to win the award since Shin-Soo Choo in September 2015. Along with his AL Rookie of
the Month honor, Langford is one of nine players (11th occurrence) to win both awards in the same calendar month, joining Aristides Aquino (August 2019); Aaron Judge (June and September 2017); Gary Sánchez (August 2016); José Abreu (April and July 2014); Yasiel Puig (June 2013); Mike Trout (July 2012); Buster Posey (July 2010); and Ryan Braun (July 2007). Among the group, Judge,
Sánchez, Abreu, Trout, Posey and Braun were each named Jackie Robinson Rookie of the Year for their respective league.

Shohei Ohtani, Los Angeles Dodgers (@shoheiohtani)
• The 30-year-old hit .393 (42-for-107) with 10 homers, 32 RBI, eight doubles, a triple, 12 walks, 27 runs scored, 16 stolen bases, a .766 slugging percentage and a .458 on-base percentage in 26 games last month.
• The Japan native led the Majors in batting average, RBI, slugging, OPS (1.224), hits (42), total bases (82), runs and stolen bases; tied for the Major League lead in homers; ranked second in on-base percentage; and tied for fifth in doubles.
• The four-time All-Star had one of the most impressive games in Baseball history as he chartered the 50/50 club with a 6-for-6 day on September 19th at Miami, hitting three home runs with 10 RBI, two stolen bases and 17 total bases. His stellar day at the plate was the first three-homer game in MLB history where the player also had multiple stolen bases, and he became the first player with at least five extrabase hits and multiple stolen bases in a game since at least 1901. Ohtani became the Dodgers’ all-time single-season home run leader, tying Shawn Green (2001) with his 49th blast of the year in the sixth inning before setting the record with his
historic 50th home run in the seventh inning.
• The 2021 and 2023 AL MVP with the Angels finished the year with 59 stolen bases and was successful in his last 36 attempts (since July 23rd), marking the second-longest streak in Dodgers’ franchise history. His streak trails only Davey Lopes, who successfully stole 38 consecutive bases from June 6-August 24, 1975. Ohtani swiped his 57th base of the year on Friday at Colorado, passing Ichiro Suzuki (2001) for the single-season record by a Japanese-born player.
• Ohtani hit a home run and stole a base in 16 games this season, marking the most such games in a single season in Major League history, surpassing the previous record of 13 games set by Rickey Henderson in 1986. The superstar had five such games in September and officially set the record on September 20th against Colorado on the heels of his record-setting game at Miami.
• The 2018 Jackie Robinson AL Rookie of the Year became the first player since 2001 with at least 400 total bases in a single season when Sammy Sosa (425); Luis Gonzalez (419); Barry Bonds (411); and Todd Helton (402) each accomplished the feat. Ohtani’s 411 total bases on the year are tied with Bonds (2001) for fifth-most in a single season, trailing Hall of Famer Stan Musial (429 in 1948); Sosa (425 in 2001); Gonzalez (419 in 2001); and Sosa (416 in 1998).

Along with hitting for the cycle on June 30th at Baltimore and hitting an inside-the-park home run on April 28th against Cincinnati, he became the first rookie and second player in Baseball history to accomplish all three feats in the same season, joining Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson (1948).
• The University of Florida product also hit a grand slam on June 22nd against Kansas City, joining Pete Incaviglia (1986) as the only rookies in Rangers’ history with multiple grand slams in a single season. Langford homered in consecutive games on September 2nd and 3rd against New York (AL) and on September 27th and 28th at Los Angeles (AL). He closed the year with a longball in four of his final seven games.
