Red Sox reinstate infielder/outfielder Romy Gonzalez from 10-day injured list

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today reinstated infielder/outfielder Romy Gonzalez from the 10-Day Injured List. To make room for Gonzalez on the active roster, the club optioned infielder/outfielder Jamie Westbrook to Triple-A Worcester.

Gonzalez, 27, was placed on the Injured List on June 2, retroactive to May 31, with a left hamstring strain. The right-handed hitter played in three rehab games with Worcester from June 13-16, going 6-for-12 with four RBI, a walk, and a stolen base while making two starts at first base and one as the designated hitter. The Florida native has played in 17 Major League games this season, batting .257 (9-for-35) with six RBI while making six starts at shortstop, one at first base, and one as the designated hitter, and appearing in two games in right field and one at third base. He was claimed off waivers from the Chicago White Sox on January 31, 2024.

Westbrook, 28, has played in 11 games for the Red Sox this season, his Major League debut. He has made nine starts at second base, also appearing in one game in right field and one at third base. The right-handed hitter has gone 4-for-18 with a double, a home run, four RBI, and two walks. The Holyoke, Massachusetts native has also played in 49 games for Worcester this season, batting .267 (44-for-165) with 25 runs scored and 29 RBI while making 20 starts at third base, 12 in right field, five at second base, five as the designated hitter, and four at first base.
