Red Sox place infielder/outfielder Romy Gonzalez on 10-day injured list
BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today placed infielder/outfielder Romy Gonzalez on the 10-Day Injured List, retroactive to April 11, with a left wrist sprain. To fill Gonzalez’s spot on the active roster, the club recalled right-handed pitcher Cooper Criswell from Triple-A Worcester.
Gonzalez, 27, played his first two games for the Red Sox on Tuesday and Wednesday against the Baltimore Orioles, going 1-for-4 with a walk. The right-handed hitter has also batted .321 (9-for-28) with one double, two triples, three home runs, and 10 RBI in seven games for Worcester. Claimed off waivers from the Chicago White Sox on January 31, the Florida native has batted .222 (52-for-234) with 31 runs scored and 27 RBI in 88 career Major League games with the White Sox (2021-23) and Red Sox (2024).
Criswell, 27, was signed as a free agent by the Red Sox on December 13, 2023. The right-hander has allowed just one run in 10.1 innings with nine strikeouts over two starts with Worcester. He also pitched in six Grapefruit League games (four starts) for Boston, posting a 2.95 ERA (6 ER/18.1 IP). The Georgia native owns a 5.97 ERA (25 ER/37.2 IP) in 12 Major League games with the Los Angeles Angels (2021) and Tampa Bay Rays (2022-23).
