Red Sox Announce Roster Moves

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today announced the following roster moves:

Rodriguez, 31, last appeared on May 30 against the Cincinnati Reds and allowed five runs over 0.2 innings. The left-hander has allowed eight runs in 4.0 innings pitched over five outings with Boston this season. He has posted a 4.92 ERA (82 ER/150.0 IP) in 162 career relief appearances with the Philadelphia Phillies (2016-17), Texas Rangers (2020-21), New York Yankees (2021), New York Mets (2022), and Red Sox (2023).

Sherriff, 32, appeared in both games of yesterday’s doubleheader against the Rays, allowing one run over 2.0 innings with three hits, two strikeouts, one walk, and one hit batsman. The left-hander has posted a 2.70 ERA (2 ER/6.1 IP) in five games for Boston this season. In 49 career Major League games with the St. Louis Cardinals (2017-18), Tampa Bay Rays (2020-21), and Boston Red Sox (2023), Sherriff owns a 3.53 ERA (20 ER/51.0 IP).

Ort, 31, has appeared in 12 games with Boston this season, posting a 7.30 ERA (10 ER/12.1 IP) with 12 strikeouts and six walks. The right-hander has also recorded a 2.45 ERA (2 ER/7.1 IP) and .179 opponent batting average in eight outings with Worcester, most recently pitching on May 30 in Louisville. Selected by the Red Sox in the Triple-A phase of the 2020 Rule 5 Draft from the New York Yankees, Ort owns a 6.59 ERA (30 ER/41.0 IP) in 38 career Major League appearances, all with Boston (2021-23).

Bernardino, 31, served as Boston’s 27th man for yesterday’s doubleheader against the Rays and pitched 2.0 scoreless innings with four strikeouts in Game Two. The left-hander has posted a 2.93 ERA (5 ER/15.1 IP) in 13 relief appearances for Boston this season. He has also pitched in three games for Triple-A Worcester, allowing two runs (one earned) in 5.0 innings.
