Red Sox acquire Minor League right-handed pitcher Joe Vogatsky from Pittsburgh Pirates
BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today acquired minor league right-handed pitcher Joe Vogatsky from the Pittsburgh Pirates, in exchange for infielder/outfielder Enmanuel Valdez.
Vogatsky, 22, was selected by Pittsburgh in the 19th round of the 2024 First-Year Player Draft. Born in Fairfax, Virginia, the right-hander pitched at James Madison University for four seasons (2021-24), including exclusively out of the bullpen as a junior and senior. In his final two seasons, he was a combined 7-3 with 14 saves, a 3.43 ERA (30 ER/78.2 IP), and 84 strikeouts.
Valdez, 25, has hit .235 (80-for-340) with 20 doubles and 12 home runs in 125 career Major League games, all with Boston (2023-24).
