Rangers recall OF Zach Reks from Round Rock, option RHP Spencer Howard to Round Rock

Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has recalled outfielder Zach Reks (#65) from Triple-A Round Rock and optioned right-handed pitcher Spencer Howard to Round Rock.

Reks, 28, is in the starting lineup for Saturday’s game against Atlanta, batting seventh as the leftfielder for his Rangers debut. Reks’ only previous Major League action came with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2021, when he went 0-for-10 in 6 games, as he is still seeking his first MLB hit. He was acquired from the Dodgers in exchange for cash considerations on November 22, 2021.

Reks has spent the season at Round Rock, batting .283/.387/.415/.802 (15-53) with no home runs, 5 doubles, a triple, and 7 RBI over 16 games for the Express. Reks went 2-for-4 with a double last night in Round Rock’s road game at Salt Lake, and he has hit safely in 5 of his last 6 contests for the Express at .409 (9-22) with 3 doubles and 3 RBI. He went 4-for-9 with a home run and 2 RBI over 6 Cactus League games with the Rangers this spring.

Howard allowed one run over 1.2 relief innings in last night’s game against the Braves and he has gone 0-1 over 3 games/one start for Texas this season, allowing 9 runs/earned runs in 6.2 innings. He was also on the 10-day Injured List from April 11-23 with a cracked fingernail/blister.
