Rangers legends Adrian Beltré, Michael Young to manage 2024 All-Star Futures Teams

A pair of former Texas Rangers teammates will be featured as managers during the 2024 All-Star Futures Game on Saturday, July 13th at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, it was announced earlier today on MLB Network. Four-time All-Star and 2024 Hall of Fame electee Adrian Beltré will join 2005 AL Batting Champion and seven-time All-Star Michael Young as managers for the 25th edition of the Futures Game. Beltré, who joined the Rangers ahead of their AL-pennant winning 2011 season, will lead the AL Futures squad while Young, who helped lead the club to consecutive AL pennants in 2010 and 2011, will be at the helm for the NL Futures team.

The 2024 All-Star Futures Game features the top Minor League prospects competing as part of All-Star Saturday. The Futures Game will once again feature a National League vs. American League format, which was introduced in 2019 following 20 years of U.S. vs. World matchups. The game, which is scheduled for seven innings, will begin at 4:10 p.m. (ET)/3:10 p.m. (CT). Last year in Seattle, the NL earned a 5-0 victory, led by Nasim Nuñez, who drove in three runs and was presented with the Larry Doby Award as the game’s most valuable player. With the victory, the NL now holds a 2-1-1 advantage under the AL vs. NL format. The remainder of the coaching staffs, as well as rosters and umpires for the game, will be announced in the coming weeks.

Beltré, who will be inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in July, played 21 seasons as a third baseman in the Majors for the Los Angeles Dodgers (1998-2004), Seattle Mariners (2005-09), Boston Red Sox (2010) and Rangers (2011-18). The Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native recorded 3,166 hits during his career, including 636 doubles, 38 triples and 477 home runs. The four-time Silver Slugger Award recipient tallied 1,707 RBI, 1,524 runs scored and 121 stolen bases while posting a .286 career batting average and an .819 OPS. Beltré slugged a career-best 48 home runs with 121 RBI in 2004 and finished second in NL MVP voting. The five-time Gold Glove Award winner led the AL with 49 doubles and earned his first All-Star selection in 2010 with Boston, and it marked the first of seven consecutive seasons in which he received MVP votes. Beltré, who had his jersey number 29 retired by the Rangers in in 2019, hit for the cycle three times during his career, becoming one of only five players all-time to accomplish that feat.

Young played 13 seasons in the Majors for the Rangers (2000-12), the Philadelphia Phillies (2013) and the Dodgers (2013). The infielder totaled 2,375 career hits with 441 doubles, 60 triples, 185 home runs, 1,030 RBI, 1,137 runs scored and 90 stolen bases while registering a .300 career batting average and .787 OPS. The California native, who had his uniform number 10 retired by the Rangers in 2019, is the team’s all-time leader in a number of offensive categories, including games (1,823); hits (2,230); runs (1,085); doubles (415); triples (55); total bases (3,286); at-bats (7,399); and multi-hit games (651). The 2006 All-Star Game MVP collected a career-best 221 hits while batting .331 during his 2005 season, which culminated with an AL batting title. Young, who picked up 12 hits across 12 World Series games in 2010-11, is one of 16 players in modern Major League history with at least six seasons of 200-or-more hits.

Following the conclusion of the Futures Game will be the brand-new MLB Futures Skills Showcase. The hitting competition, which will feature three rounds of hitting challenges, is inspired by fan favorite baseball video games past and present. The competition is the latest initiative to highlight baseball’s future stars on a national platform and guarantees fans the opportunity to see top prospects display their all-around hitting abilities in a fun and competitive environment.
