Phillies Place Suárez on Injured List

The Phillies have placed left-handed pitcher Ranger Suárez on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to July 24) with lower back soreness. To fill his spot on the 26-man roster, left-handed pitcher Kolby Allard was recalled from triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Phillies President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski made the announcement.

Suárez, 28, has posted a 2.87 ERA (38 ER, 119.1 IP) in 20 starts this season with a 1.06 WHIP and 116 strikeouts to 27 walks. He was named National League Pitcher of the Month for March/April and earned the first All-Star selection of his career. Suárez was the first major league pitcher to reach 10 wins this season and his ERA is the third-best in the NL.

A native of Pie de Cuesta, Venezuela, Suárez was signed by the Phillies as an amateur free agent on April 1, 2012.

Allard, 26, has appeared in 16 games (10 starts) for Lehigh Valley this season, going 2-6 with a 5.23 ERA (37 ER, 63.2 IP), 59 strikeouts and 28 walks. In eight appearances (7 starts) since June 1, the San Clemente, Calif., native has posted a 2.84 ERA (14 ER, 44.1 IP) with 42 strikeouts and 11 walks. During that span, he ranks fifth in the International League in ERA, tied for fifth in innings pitched and 10th in WHIP (1.20).

Originally selected by the Atlanta Braves in the first round (14th overall) of the 2015 MLB Draft, Allard signed with the Phillies as a free agent on Jan. 23, 2024.
