Pirates to participate in 2024 Clemente Day of Service

The Pittsburgh Pirates will celebrate the life and legacy of Roberto Clemente tomorrow with a diverse array of events and activities in honor of Clemente Day. Members of the front office, coaching staff and players will come together to honor Clemente’s humanitarian impact, which extended far beyond the baseball diamond.

In the spirit of Clemente’s community service legacy, Pirates players, coaches, front office staff, corporate partners and members of the Clemente family will participate in the Pirates annual Clemente Day of service, presented by Fanatics. Volunteers will donate their time to five service projects supporting our community in the areas of youth baseball and softball, military support, cancer support and mental health, and an annual project supporting Pittsburgh’s Latino Community Center.

“The annual league-wide celebration of Roberto Clemente is a special day, but for Pittsburghers and our fans it means so much more,” said Bob Nutting, Pirates Chairman. “In wearing his number 21 on the field and making a positive impact in the lives of others within our community, we are proud to continue to carry on his legacy.”

In working to grow the game of baseball, representatives of the club in collaboration with Duquesne Light Company will take part in an improvement project of three fields at Brighton Heights Park. Among the improvements taking place on the fields, which are home to hundreds of Northside RBI athletes, will be weeding, grass trimming, home plate resurfacing and field conditioning.

The Pirates will be displaying their military appreciation with the help of Veterans Leadership Program as they set up a drive through food distribution in Pittsburgh’s Strip District neighborhood that will lend support to 150 veterans and their families. At PNC Park, staff will work with the Gary Sinise Foundation's Soaring Valor Mail Call program to write notes and letters for WWII veterans.
