Roster move

The Pittsburgh Pirates today recalled right-handed pitcher Mike Burrows from the minor leagues.

Right-handed pitcher Jared Jones has been optioned to the Florida Complex League Pirates to make room for Burrows on the 28-man active roster.

The 24-year-old Burrows is currently rated as Pittsburgh’s No.16 prospect according to MLB Pipeline.

Burrows began the season on the 60-day injured list recovering from right elbow surgery that was performed on April 26, 2023. He went a combined 1-3 with a 5.26 ERA (51.1ip/30er) and 59 strikeouts in 16 appearances (15 starts) this season between the Florida Complex League Pirates, Single-A Bradenton, and Triple-A Indianapolis.

Burrows was selected by the Pirates in the 11th round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft out of Waterford (CT) High School.

He represented the Pirates at the All-Star Futures Game in 2022 after entering that season rated by Baseball America as the club’s No. 5 prospect.

He will become the seventh Pirate to make his MLB debut this season, joining Jared Jones, Brady Feigl, Grant Koch, Paul Skenes, Billy Cook and Nick Yorke.

Burrows will wear uniform No. 53.
