Pirates announce the hiring of Brent Strom as Major League assistant pitching coach

The Pittsburgh Pirates today announced the hiring of Brent Strom as the organization’s Major League Assistant Pitching Coach.

Strom has served as a head Major League Pitching Coach for 14 seasons and is regarded for his ability of blending old-school pitching mentality with modern analytics. Strom has worked with a Cy Young Award finalist in seven of the past eight seasons, while four of his teams have played in the World Series (Houston in 2017, 2019 and 2021 and Arizona in 2023). Strom, who was named Baseball America’s 2018 MLB Coach of the Year, began his coaching career in 1981 with the Dodgers organization.

“Brent has a proven track record throughout his career of helping pitchers take the next step to being successful at the big league level,” said Pirates Manager Derek Shelton. “We are excited about what he will bring to our coaching staff as well as the talented group of pitchers that we already have on our staff right now.”
