Pirates acquire two players from New York Yankees
The Pittsburgh Pirates today acquired infielders Hoy Jun Park and Diego Castillo from the New York Yankees in exchange for right-handed pitcher Clay Holmes.
Park currently ranks first among all Triple-A East League players in batting (.327), OBP (.475), OPS (1.042) and walks (46), tied for third in runs scored (44) and fourth in slugging percentage (.567). The 25-year-old, who also played in one game for the Yankees this season, is hitting a combined .307 (62-for-202) with 10 doubles, one triple, 11 home runs, 32 RBI and a .981 OPS in 58 games this season between Double-A Somerset and Triple-A Scranton-Wilkes Barre.
Park was ranked by MLB.com as the No. 13 prospect for the 2014 international signing period. He began his professional career with short-season Pulaski in the Appalachian League in 2015, where he was ranked by Baseball America as the No. 12 prospect in the league following the season.
Since making his professional debut in 2015, the left-handed hitting Park has hit .255 (519-for-2034) with 77 doubles, 30 triples, 34 home runs, 210 RBI and 118 stolen bases in 556 games in the minor leagues.
Castillo has spent the entire 2021 season with Double-A Somerset of the Northeast League, where he is hitting .277 (62-for-224) with 18 doubles, 11 home runs, 32 RBI and an .850 OPS in 58 games.
The 23-year-old Castillo was ranked by MLB.com as the No. 16 prospect for the 2014 international signing period. Since making his professional debut with the Dominican Summer League Yankees 1 team in 2015, he has produced a .269 career average (532-for-1976), 89 doubles, 15 triples, 19 home runs and 206 RBI in 510 games at the minor league level.
