Pirates acquire Manny Bañuelos from the New York Yankees for cash considerations
The Pittsburgh Pirates today acquired LHP Manny Bañuelos from the New York Yankees in exchange for cash considerations. The Pirates 40-man roster is now at 39.
Bañuelos, 31, appeared in four games for the Yankees this year, notching one save to go along with a 2.16 ERA (2 ER in 8.1 IP) and limited left-handed hitters to a .143 (1-for-7) batting average. The five-foot-ten, 215-pound southpaw split the 2021 season between Fubon of the Chinese Professional Baseball League and Culiacan of the Mexican League, combining to go 2-2 with a 2.75 ERA (18 ER in 59.0 IP) and 75 strikeouts in 12 games (11 starts).
Bañuelos has combined to go 4-8 with 1 save, a 5.91 ERA (56 ER in 85.1 IP) and 71 strikeouts in 27 games (14 starts) across three Major League seasons with the Braves (2015), White Sox (2019) and Yankees (2022). He will wear uniform No. 53 when he reports to the big league club.
