Phillies reinstate Turner from IL; option Rojas to Lehigh Valley

Prior to tonight’s game against the San Diego Padres, the Phillies reinstated shortstop Trea Turner from the 10-day injured list. To make room for him on the 26-man roster, outfielder Johan Rojas was optioned to triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Phillies President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski made the announcement.

Turner, 30, started each of the Phillies’ first 33 games this season, slashing .343/.392/.460 with an .852 OPS before being placed on the 10-day injured list on May 4 with a left hamstring strain. He was named National League Player of the Week for the third time in his career on April 22 after batting .462 (12-26) with five doubles, a home run, four RBI, a walk and 10 runs scored in six games.

Originally selected 13th overall by the Padres in the 2014 MLB Draft, Turner was signed by the Phillies as a free agent on Dec. 8, 2022.

Rojas, 23, slashed .235/.271/.295 in 58 games this season (196 plate appearances). Rojas has played in 117 games for the Phillies since making his major league debut on July 15, 2023, posting a .265/.303/.355 slash line with 16 Defensive Runs Saved in that span.

Rojas was originally signed by the Phillies as an amateur free agent on Jan. 18, 2018.
