Phillies recall Kolby Allard, option Max Lazar

Prior to today’s game against the New York Mets, the Phillies recalled left-handed pitcher Kolby Allard from triple-A Lehigh Valley. To make room for Allard on the 28-man roster, right-handed pitcher Max Lazar was optioned to Lehigh Valley following last night’s game.

Phillies President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski made the announcement.

Allard, 27, has gone 2-0 with a 3.50 ERA (7 ER, 18.0 IP) and 13 strikeouts to two walks in four games (three starts) in his two stints with the Phillies this season. The San Clemente, Calif., native hasn’t allowed more than two earned runs in his last three appearances.

Originally selected by the Atlanta Braves in the first round (14th overall) of the 2015 MLB Draft, Allard signed with the Phillies as a free agent on Jan. 23, 2024.

Lazar, 25, has made 11 relief appearances with the Phillies this season and his first seven appearances to begin his major league career were scoreless. He was signed by the Phillies as a minor league free agent on Dec. 8, 2023, and was originally selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 11th round of the 2017 MLB Draft.
