Phillies and The GIANT Company to kick off week-long ‘Summer of Giving’ on Friday

The Phillies and The GIANT Company are teaming up to host their annual Summer of Giving, featuring a week of charitable events being held throughout the Delaware Valley and at Citizens Bank Park.

Highlights include guest appearances by the Phillie Phanatic, All-Star outfielder Kyle Schwarber, baseball greats Milt Thompson and Mickey Morandini, Phillies Ballgirls and Phillies Ambassador Scott Palmer, who will bring the Phillies fun to various organizations that are making a difference in the community.

Participating charitable groups include Project HOME, MANNA, Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (T.A.P.S.) and Minding Your Mind.

Other happenings include a Phillies Charities Summer Flash Sale, Christmas in July Toy Drive and Mickey Morandini’s Cornhole Classic for fans, all being held to raise money for charity at upcoming games at Citizens Bank Park.

Phillies Summer of Giving presented by The GIANT Company

· Friday, July 22: Phillies Give Back at MANNA. Phillies Give Back is a monthly employee volunteer program where members of the Phillies Phamily go out into the community to volunteer with different non-profits. During the Summer Week of Giving, the Phillies will partner with MANNA, a former Phillies Charities, Inc. grant recipient, to work on supervised tasks that MANNA chefs assign such as chopping vegetables, packing meals, filling meal trays, making sandwiches, baking and additional tasks.

· Saturday, July 23: Phillies Charities Summer Flash Sale at Citizens Bank Park. Fans coming to that night’s 6:05 p.m. game against the Chicago Cubs can stop by the First Base Plaza to purchase hundreds of items signed by current players and alumni such as Aaron Nola, Rhys Hoskins, Charlie Manuel, and more, all to benefit Phillies Charities, Inc.! The event will be held from 4:35 p.m. until the 5th inning and feature new, team-issued and game-used baseballs, hats, and jerseys from current players and alumni (while supplies last).

· Sunday, July 24: Strikeout the Stigma sponsored by Kitay Law Offices. This Phillies Community Outreach initiative is focused on bringing important conversations to the forefront about the value of healthy life habits, supporting those around us, and removing the negative connotation surrounding mental health. The session will focus on the ‘Relationship Between Diet and Mental Health’ and include panelists Dr. Tracy Oliver, PhD, RDN, LDN Associate Professor from Villanova University, Scott Prendergast of Minding Your Mind, dietitian Shannon Shultz from The GIANT Company, and Phillies Ambassador Scott Palmer, who will moderate the session.

· Monday, July 25 – Schwarber’s Neighborhood Heroes and Phillies Ballgirls Christmas in July Toy Drive at Citizens Bank Park, during the 7:05 p.m. game against the Atlanta Braves.

o Phillies’ Kyle Schwarber is thanking front line heroes and responders through his community ticket program, Schwarber’s Neighborhood Heroes, and on Monday will welcome members from T.A.P.S. With the help of Schwarber and his wife Paige, groups including local police officers, firefighters, and military veterans will be treated to a special experience at the ballpark throughout the season, capped off with an exclusive meet and greet with Schwarber himself.

o The Phillies Ballgirls will host their annual Christmas in July Toy Drive, collecting new and unwrapped toys at the entrance gates to benefit local organizations dedicated to improving the lives of children. The event will take place from when gates open until the bottom of the third inning.

· Tuesday, July 26: Mickey Morandini’s Corn Hole Classic at Citizens Bank Park. Phillies Ambassador and 1993 National League Champion Mickey Morandini is raising money for Phillies Charities through corn hole before that night’s 7:05 p.m. game against the Atlanta Braves. Mickey will greet fans at the Third Base Plaza and challenge them to three throws of cornhole. Beat the ambassador and win a prize!

· Thursday, July 28: Project HOME BINGO Night. The Phillies are joining Project HOME in hosting a special Phillies-themed BINGO party for those affiliated with this Philadelphia non-profit that offers permanent, subsidized housing for individuals and families who had been homeless. Attendees will receive special Phillies giveaways, as well as GIANT gift cards for all BINGO winners! The event is hosted by Scott Palmer, with special guest BINGO helpers including 2008 World Champion Hitting Coach and 1993 National League Champion Milt Thompson and the Phillie Phanatic.
