Padres pitcher Suarez disciplined
Michael Hill, Major League Baseball’s Senior Vice President of On-Field Operations, announced today that San Diego Padres pitcher Robert Suarez has received a 10-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for violating the prohibitions on foreign substances, which resulted in his ejection prior to the top of the eighth inning of his Club’s Wednesday, August 23rd game against the Miami Marlins at Petco Park.
The suspension of Suarez had been scheduled to become effective tonight, when the Padres are to open a series at Milwaukee. However, Suarez has elected to appeal. Thus, the discipline will be held in abeyance until that process is complete.
