Padres announce home Opening Series details presented by Sycuan Casino Resort

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego Padres today announced details surrounding the 2022 Opening Series presented by Sycuan Casino Resort against the World Series Champion Atlanta Braves, including Padres Opening Day on Thursday, April 14, when right-handed pitcher Joe Musgrove takes the mound with first pitch scheduled for 5:10 p.m. Tickets for Opening Day are sold out but tickets remain for the Opening Series games on Friday, April 15, Saturday, April 16, and Sunday, April 17.

Thursday’s pregame ceremony will feature all the pageantry of Opening Day, including the unfurling of the Holiday Bowl Big Flag, held by sailors of the USS San Diego. Encinitas native Jon Foreman, who is a Grammy Award Winner and founding member of the band Switchfoot, will perform the National Anthem and will be followed by a flyover performed by two F35-C Lighting II from Strike Fighter Squadron VFA-125 Rough Raiders based out of Naval Air Station Lemoore. Kallie Humphries, Carlsbad resident and three-time Olympic Gold Medalist, including 2022 Gold in the Winter Olympics Monobob event, will throw the game’s Ceremonial First Pitch. In addition, CPL Megan Browning, United States Marine Corps and the first Marine to be recruited as a vocalist, will perform God Bless America prior to the 7th-inning stretch

All Petco Park gates will open at 3:00 p.m. for Opening Day. This will afford fans the opportunity to enter early and enjoy all Petco Park has to offer. Fans should be in their seats no later than 4:30 p.m. to enjoy the entire 2022 Opening Day pregame ceremony.

With a sellout for Opening Day and high attendance expected for the Opening Series, fans are advised to enter the ballpark early and pre-purchase parking. Fans can purchase parking for off-site locations, including the San Diego Convention Center and Bayfront Hilton, by visiting www.padres.com/transportation. Guests without pre-purchased parking passes are encouraged to utilize public transportation or rideshare services.

Continuing this year, standard Petco Park security procedures, including walk-through metal detectors, will be in place for every game. All fans must be screened as they enter the ballpark. Fans also will continue to have their bags checked by ballpark security staff prior to reaching entry gates and going through metal detectors. For enhanced ballpark security and to expedite the entry process for all guests, Petco Park will prohibit bags with the exception of single-compartment bags measuring 7” x 10” or smaller, drawstring bags, fanny packs, plastic grocery bags and infant and medical bags. Express Entry lines will be available at all main gates for fans without bags and dedicated entrances are available for Season Ticket Members at the Home Plate and Park Blvd Gates. The San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) has added a new trolley line as a transportation option for fans traveling from North and Mid-County San Diego. The UC San Diego Blue Line will run southbound from UTC to Petco Park daily, providing a convenient stop for fans at the 12th and Imperial station in Downtown. All three Trolley Lines — the Sycuan Green Line, the UC San Diego Blue Line and the Orange Line — offer direct service to Petco Park and increased service following the game. The North County Transit District (NCTD) will offer COASTER service with southbound trains departing from Oceanside Transit Center at 9:36 a.m., 11:36 a.m., 1:36 p.m. and 3:36 p.m. on Opening Day. Free parking is available at all North County Coaster stations and Coaster Regional Day passes include free trolley connections. Northbound COASTER service is scheduled to depart Santa Fe Depot at 9:20 p.m. after the Opening Day game and may be held to accommodate passengers traveling northbound. Game two of the Opening Series presented by Sycuan Casino Resort will feature the first Party in the Park presented by Southwest Airlines of the 2022 season as the Padres face the Braves at 6:40 p.m. Friday’s theme will be 90’s Night with live music performed by American turntablist and founding member of The Beastie Boys Mix Master Mike. Party in the Park is a pregame happy hour in Gallagher Square from 4:30-6:30 p.m. featuring $5 drink specials and live entertainment. With Friday serving as the 75th anniversary of Jackie Robinson’s historic MLB debut, the Padres will celebrate Jackie Robinson Day with a Johnny Ritchey scholarship recognition by honoring local high school students who embody the characteristics and qualities Ritchey displayed on the field. Ritchey followed in Robinson’s footsteps and broke the color barrier in the Pacific Coast League. The Padres will also celebrate African American Heritage at Petco Park on Friday with a limited-edition Padres themed hat available with the purchase of an African American Heritage Celebration Theme Game ticket package.

The final two games of the Opening Series will be featured on national broadcasts, with Saturday’s game being broadcast on FS1 in addition to Bally Sports San Diego with first pitch slated for 1:05 p.m., and Sunday’s game available on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball with first pitch scheduled at 4:08 p.m. Sunday will also be highlighted by the Opening Series Hat giveaway presented by Sycuan Casino Resort (available to the first 35,000 fans in attendance), as well as Military Opening Day presented by USAA, KidsFest presented by SuperMouth and Postgame Kids Run the Bases. Military Opening Day presented by USAA will feature a baseline ceremony with representatives from each branch of the armed services, a presentation from Marine Corps Air Station Miramar of the 50 State Flags, the Starting Nine military taking the field and a performance by the U.S. Navy parachute team Leap Frogs. KidsFest presented by Super Mouth will feature bounce houses and other inflatables, games, face painters, balloon artists and more kid-friendly activities in Gallagher Square.

The Padres will continue their opening homestand with a three-game set against the Cincinnati Reds from April 18-20. Monday’s game on April 18 will be highlighted by Bark at the Park presented by Petco, and the Ceremonial First Pitch will be thrown by San Diego Wave stars and Olympic Gold Medalists Alex Morgan and Abby Dahlkemper. April 19 will feature a Salute to First Responders with a special pregame ceremony in addition to Autism Acceptance Night in partnership with Autism Society San Diego, Autism Speaks and other local autism organizations. A special Autism Acceptance Theme Game package is available for purchase and includes a “SD” themed limited-edition Padres hat and a donation to a local community group. The Padres will also offer early entrance on Tuesday, April 19, for Season Ticket Members to enjoy Padres Batting Practice as one of the new Member benefits in 2022.

Following an off-day on Thursday, April 21, the opening homestand will conclude with a three-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers from April 22-24. Friday, April 22, will feature Party in the Park: BeerFest presented by Southwest Airlines with $5 beer specials from a variety of local and national partners, including Budweiser and Ballast Point. German Heritage Celebration will also take place at Petco Park on Friday with a limited-edition themed Padres hat available with the purchase of a dedicated Theme Game ticket package. The opening homestand will wrap up on Sunday, April 24 with KidsFest presented by SuperMouth, Military Appreciation Day: Salute to the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Space Force and Air National Guard presented by USAA and Postgame Kids Run the Bases. With a high attendance expected when the Padres host the Dodgers, fans are encouraged to arrive early to Petco Park and utilize public transportation and rideshare services.
