Padres Announce the Inaugural San Diego Rodeo

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego Padres, in partnership with C5 Rodeo Company Inc. and Outriders Present, today announced details surrounding the inaugural San Diego Rodeo taking place at Petco Park on Friday, January 12 through Sunday, January 14. As the first-ever rodeo to be held at Petco Park, the San Diego Rodeo will feature the world’s top rodeo athletes competing for more than half a million dollars in prize money over the course of a three-day competition, with the winner being selected on Sunday, the final day of the weekend-long event. Tickets for the San Diego Rodeo will go on sale Monday, September 18 (date subject to change) and will be available for purchase at www.padres.com/rodeo.

“The Padres are proud to partner with C5 Rodeo Co. and Outriders Present to host the first rodeo in Petco Park history,” said Erik Greupner, Padres CEO. “We look forward to welcoming fans from all over the country to Petco Park for a true rodeo experience in the heart of San Diego.”

“This is an incredible opportunity for C5 Rodeo Company to do something different and bring rodeo to the ballpark,” said Vern McDonald, Owner of C5. “Thank you to Outriders Present and the San Diego Padres for being such great partners and allowing us to bring forward something new and innovative for the sport. People of San Diego and Southern California are bound to be impressed by this event as we’ll be bringing a world-class rodeo experience along with the sport’s top athletes.”

"San Diego has always been a strong supporter of country music and western culture due to its diverse population of military and its own amazing history of the California Cowboy." said Johnny Shockey, founder of Outriders. "So we brought this exciting concept to the Padres to produce a world class Rodeo with some of the best cowboys and recognizable names in Rodeo. We are kicking it off with the World Champ Stetson Wright and high score world record holder Rocker Steiner."

The Padres are partnering with C5 Rodeo Co. and Outriders Present—two organizations that have a long history with rodeos—to bring an authentic rodeo experience to downtown San Diego, while Petco Park’s open-air facility will provide a rare environment to traditional rodeo culture. Providing services to events at over 40 locations worldwide, C5 Rodeo Co. is recognized in the world of rodeo for their innovative approach to rodeo production and award-winning world-class stock. Home to one of the largest bucking horse suppliers in North America, C5 Rodeo operates out of Lac La Biche, Alberta and Helena, Montana, which span just over 12,000 acres combined. Outriders Presents produces rodeo and independent country music events across Montana and California, with one such upcoming Southern California show including Wild Horses Festival with Zach Bryan, CAAMP and more at Petco Park on December 30. Many of the sport’s most talented cowboys will be participating in the San Diego Rodeo, including Rocker Steiner and Stetson Wright, providing locals and visitors alike the opportunity to see top-tier rodeo talent at one dynamic event.

The three-day family-friendly event will feature 12 contestants in each Rodeo event with the first two rounds taking place on Friday, January 12 and Saturday, January 13. The event will conclude on Sunday, January 14, with the Semi-Finals featuring the advancing eight athletes as they compete for four spots in the Finals to emerge as the winner. The weekend will have a total payout of $620,000 in prize money. In addition to the action on the field, select concessions will be available for purchase each day of the event, and fans will be treated to the same best-in-class entertainment experience that is customary at Petco Park. More information surrounding the rodeo, including event times and ticket prices, will be available at a later date.

Tickets for the San Diego Rodeo will be available for purchase as a single-day pass only. Padres Members will receive access to an exclusive presale on Monday, September 18 (date subject to change) at 10:00 a.m. with tickets going on sale to the general public later that day at 2:00 p.m. For more information surrounding the inaugural San Diego Rodeo, or to purchase tickets for the event, please visit www.padres.com/rodeo.
