Padres announce 2023 Opening Day roster
SAN DIEGO – The San Diego Padres have finalized their Opening Day 26-man roster, President of Baseball Operations & General Manager A.J. Preller announced today.
The club has selected the contracts of outfielder David Dahl, infielder Rougned Odor and right-handed pitcher Domingo Tapia, optioned catcher Brett Sullivan to Triple-A El Paso and designated right-hander Michel Baez for assignment.
Outfielder Adam Engel (left hamstring strain) has been placed on the 10-day Injured List (retroactive to March 27), and the following players have been placed on the 15-day IL (retro to March 27):
- Right-handers Joe Musgrove (left big toe fracture) and Robert Suarez (right elbow inflammation)
- Left-handers José Castillo (left shoulder strain) and Drew Pomeranz (left elbow/flexor strain)
Additionally, the club placed left-hander Adrian Morejon (left elbow sprain) on the 60-day IL. With today’s moves the Padres have a full 40-man roster.
The Opening Day roster features nine right-handed pitchers, four left-handers, two catchers, seven infielders and four outfielders. Brent Honeywell and Domingo Tapia are making their first appearance on a Major League Opening Day roster.

- OF (4): José Azocar, David Dahl, Trent Grisham, Juan Soto
The Padres open up the 2023 season today, March 30, at Petco Park against the Colorado Rockies. First pitch is set for 6:40 p.m. PT.
