Otto Kemp and Mavis Graves earn organizational honors for the month of May

Jersey Shore infielder Otto Kemp and Clearwater left-handed pitcher Mavis Graves have been named Phillies Minor League Hitter and Pitcher of the Month, respectively, for May.

Kemp, 24, slashed .337/.453/.581 (1.034 OPS), going 29-for-86 with seven doubles, four triples, two home runs, 13 RBI, 15 walks, four stolen bases and 19 runs scored in 24 games for high-A Jersey Shore during the month. Among qualified hitters in the South Atlantic League, the right-handed batter ranked first in triples, third in on-base percentage, fourth in OPS, sixth in slugging percentage, tied for sixth in batting average and runs, tied for seventh in extra-base hits (13) and tied for eighth in total bases (50). Kemp, who became the seventh BlueClaw in team history to hit two triples in a game on May 18 at Hudson Valley, recorded 16 hits during his 11-game hitting streak from May 10-22. A native of Fullerton, Calif., he signed with the Phillies as a non-drafted free agent on July 28, 2022, and was signed by Zach Friedman.

The 20-year-old Graves went 3-0 with a 2.95 ERA (7 ER, 21.1 IP), 29 strikeouts, seven walks and a 0.89 WHIP (12 H) in four appearances (3 starts) for the Threshers in May. Among all pitchers in the Florida State League to throw at least 20.0 innings, the 6-foot-4, 230-pound left-hander ranked tied for first in wins, fourth in opponent batting average (.158) and strikeouts per nine innings pitched (12.23), seventh in WHIP and tied for ninth in strikeout-to-walk ratio (4.14). The Greenville, S.C., native was named FSL Pitcher of the Week for the week of May 20-26 after he struck out nine batters in 6.0 innings and earned the win on May 25 at St. Lucie. Graves was selected by the Phillies in the sixth round of the 2022 MLB Draft and was signed by Aaron Jersild.
