Major League Baseball to host free, one-day umpire camp at Maimonides Park in Brooklyn, New York on Saturday, August 27th

Major League Baseball will host a free, one-day umpire camp at Maimonides Park, home of the Brooklyn Cyclones, the High-A affiliate of the New York Mets, on Saturday, August 27th. Staff for the event will include many accomplished former MLB Umpires, current MLB Supervisors and Observers, as well as Minor League and NCAA Officials. Among those participating from the MLB Umpiring Department will be Fieldin Culbreth, Mike Everitt, Cris Jones, Ed Rapuano, Charlie Reliford and Rich Rieker.

This is MLB’s fifth free, one-day umpire camp of 2022 for anyone interested in umpiring in baseball and softball, including those aiming to begin professional careers.

Over a hundred attendees have earned full scholarships to attend umpire school over the last 16 years. More than 160 MLBUC attendees have been offered jobs umpiring in Minor League Baseball, and many are currently working in pro ball today.

MLB announced last week a new path for candidates to pursue professional umpiring careers through the MLB Umpire Prospect Development Camp, a four-week experience that will become the gateway into umpiring careers in Minor League Baseball. MLB’s Umpire Prospect Development Camp will be held at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex in Vero Beach, Florida in January. Attendees of MLB’s Umpire Prospect Development Camp will flow from participation in MLB’s existing network of free one-day Umpire Camps held across the country.
