Minnesota Twins Homestand Highlights: July 12-17
MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL, MN – The division-leading Minnesota Twins return to Target Field tonight for a two-team, six-game homestand leading into the All-Star Break. The Twins open the homestand with the annual “Border Battle” series with the Milwaukee Brewers tonight and tomorrow, before welcoming the Chicago White Sox for a four-game, American League Central division weekend clash from Thursday-Sunday, July 14-17. The inaugural Disability Pride Days (tonight and tomorrow), the first of two 2022 Youth Field Takeovers (tomorrow evening in Minnetonka), the annual Pride Night celebration on Friday, July 15 and Jim Kaat Day on Saturday, July 16 are among the homestand’s many highlights.

Tonight – Tuesday, July 12 vs. Milwaukee Brewers (6:40 p.m.; gates open at 5:30 p.m.)
- Gate Giveaway – T-Shirt Tuesday: The first 5,000 fans in attendance will receive a T-shirt designed by Minneapolis-based artist Emiko Rainbow. Emiko’s unique look at the Twins’ “TC” mark is the third of a special, five-date “T-Shirt Tuesday Artist Series” at Target Field through September.
- Disability Pride Night in partnership with Gillette Children’s: In recognition of Disability Pride Month, the Twins, in partnership with Gillette Children’s, will celebrate the inaugural Disability Pride Days at Target Field during the Twins-Brewers series. Fans who purchase a special theme night package will receive a ticket to the game, along with an exclusive Twins Disability Pride cap. Additionally, a portion of each ticket purchased through this special package will be donated back to Gillette Children’s to support disability awareness.
- Ceremonial First Pitch: A Gillette Children’s patient will throw out a ceremonial first pitch.
- Hollywood Stars: Prior to tonight’s game, the Twins will recognize first-time American League All-Stars Luis Arraez and Byron Buxton, who were named to the team on Sunday. - MLB Game of the Week Live on YouTube: The Twins-Brewers series finale is the “MLB Game of the Week Live on YouTube.” Fans can access the broadcast for free from anywhere they can watch YouTube, including on MLB’s YouTube channel.

- Youth Field Takeover presented by U.S. Bank in Minnetonka: The first of two youth field takeovers in 2022 will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the Legacy Fields at Minnetonka High School, as the Twins and partner U.S. Bank will bring the full “Target Field Experience” to a 12-year-old softball game between the Minnetonka Skippers and Minnetonka Anchors. The Twins will bring Target Field public address announcer Adam Abrams and organist Sue Nelson, along with a production crew to run a full videoboard and sound system. Additionally, each player will receive a Twins jersey, while fans will receive Twins seat cushions and rally towels.

- College of St. Benedict & St. John’s University Night: All associated with the College of St. Benedict & University of St. John’s are invited to join their fellow Bennies and Johnnies for CSB/SJU Night. - Take a Bow, Champions: Prior to the game, the Twins will recognize the 2022 Minnesota State High School League Champions in baseball and softball across the various divisions.
- Ceremonial First Pitches: Thursday’s game will feature a pair of noteworthy ceremonial first pitches:
- Tom Willis: National award-winning video and television producer Tom Willis was born without arms, so he learned to use his feet to do everything in life – from writing, to driving a car, and even pitching. Continuing the Twins’ commitment to celebrating Disability Pride, the organization will welcome Tom to throw out a ceremonial first pitch as part of his “Pitch for Awareness” tour across major league ballparks.
- Larry Gallagher: Over the past 65 years, Larry Gallagher has become one of the most respected umpires in Twins Territory, working games at every level – including the majors. The Twins will recognize Larry for his more than six decades – and counting – of service to the game, which now includes mentorship and training to countless umpires.

- Pride Night presented by Target: As part of the organization’s commitment to celebrate Pride for 365 days a year, the Twins are proud to join the LGBTQIA+ community, friends, family and organizations in hosting the club’s annual Pride Night, presented by Target. Fans who purchase this special theme night package receive a ticket to the game, along with an exclusive, Twins Pride Night tank top. Additional celebrations include:
- Pregame Festivities: Live music from Dj Caiked Up, #TakePride photo opportunities and more highlight pregame celebrations inside Gate 34.
- Ceremonial First Pitch: Prior to the game, a ceremonial first pitch will be thrown by Greg Fedio, executive director of the 2023 Gay Softball World Series, which is set to “Light Up the North” in the Minneapolis region from August 28 through September 2 of next year.
- Twins Territory and Pride Flags: The Twins Territory and Pride flags will be raised by Troi Hawkins, daughter of Twins Special Assistant LaTroy Hawkins and his wife, Anita.
- National Anthem: The national anthem will be performed by the Twin Cities Gay Men’s Chorus, a nonprofit volunteer community chorus whose mission is “Gay Men Building Community Through Music.”
- 7th-Inning Stretch: Players from the Twin Cities Goodtime Softball League, a proud member of the North American Gay Amateur Athletic Alliance, will lead the crowd in “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.”
- Returning Home Ceremony in partnership with Budweiser: The Twins, in partnership with Budweiser, will welcome servicemembers from three Minnesota National Guard units, all of whom have returned home from deployment within the last few months. The Twins will celebrate these brave men and women on the field before the game, while each will receive four tickets to the game so they may enjoy a night at the ballpark with family and friends.
- Friday Night Fireworks Presented by Securian Financial: The Twins will conclude their celebration of Pride Night with the fourth in a summer-long series of Friday Night Fireworks presented by Securian Financial.

Saturday, July 16 vs. Chicago White Sox presented by Sheboygan Sausage Company (1:10 p.m.; gates open at 11:00 a.m.)
- Jim Kaat Day presented by Sheboygan Sausage Company: The Twins will honor 2022 National Baseball Hall of Fame electee Jim Kaat, who will have his uniform number 36 retired in an on-field ceremony prior to the game against the White Sox – the team for which he collected 45 of his 283 career wins.
- Gate Giveaway: The first 10,000 fans in attendance will receive a special Jim Kaat bobblehead, courtesy of Sheboygan Sausage Company.
- Jim Kaat Logo: The Twins will wear a jersey patch bearing a specially-designed Number 36 logo in honor of “Kitty’s” number being retired. The logo will also adorn the bases and baseballs used during the game.
- Number Retirement Ceremony: Honoring the Hall of Fame career of one of the franchise’s all-time great pitchers – and its Minnesota-era leader with 189 wins, 422 starts and 2959.1 innings pitched – the Twins will officially retire the number 36 worn by Jim Kaat throughout his entire Twin Cities tenure (1961-73). Kaat is scheduled to be joined on the field by his family and friends; past teammates George Mitterwald, Phil Roof and Dick Stigman; fellow Twins Hall of Famers Michael Cuddyer and Joe Nathan (who also wore No. 36); Minnesota native and former Twins catcher Terry Steinbach (himself another No. 36); and the Twins’ previously retired numbers: Bert Blyleven, Rod Carew, Kent Hrbek, Tom Kelly, Ken Killebrew (Harmon’s son), Joe Mauer, Tony Oliva, Catherine Puckett (Kirby’s daughter) and Kirby Puckett Jr. (Kirby’s son). Longtime Twins television announcer Dick Bremer, who partnered with Kaat in the broadcast booth from 1988-93 and again from 2019 through this season, will emcee the event. Additional speakers are set to include Cuddyer and Kaat’s former Twins rotation-mate Blyleven, himself a Cooperstown inductee and legendary broadcaster.
- Media Availability: Jim Kaat will be available for interviews in the Herb Carneal Press Box following the conclusion of the on-field ceremonies.
