Minnesota Twins and Target Field earn SAFETY Act designation

MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL, MN – The Minnesota Twins today announced that the club and Target Field have received Support Anti-Terrorism by Fostering Effective Technologies (SAFETY) Act designation by the United States Department of Homeland Security, becoming the 12th Major League Baseball team to earn the distinction. The SAFETY Act, enacted by Congress in 2002, serves as one of the highest levels of accreditation offered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and promotes the development and deployment of effective anti-terrorism measures including technologies, services and personnel trainings.

“Our paramount focus is, and always will be, on the safety, comfort and well-being of every individual that enters Target Field, whether that be for a game, a concert, another major event or our day-to-day operations,” said Twins Senior Vice President, Ballpark Operations Matt Hoy. “Achieving SAFETY Act designation is a testament to the foresight, diligence and daily commitment of our staff, local law enforcement agencies and emergency service personnel to ensure that Target Field is a premier destination in every sense. We are grateful to the Minnesota Ballpark Authority and our partners, and we are honored to have our collective efforts recognized.”

“This designation is the culmination of diligent work with our public safety partners and strategic investments by the team and the Minnesota Ballpark Authority,” said MBA Board Chair Margaret Anderson Kelliher. “Congratulations to everyone who contributed to this significant achievement.”

The Twins were awarded SAFETY Act designation by virtue of the development and implementation of a comprehensive, integrated security system throughout Target Field based on Major League Baseball’s Best Stadium Operating practices, other sports and entertainment industry best practices, other industry practices, and government recommendations. This technology is comprised of physical and electronic security measures, tools, policies and procedures, and trained personnel designed to detect, deter, prevent, respond to and mitigate acts of terrorism against Target Field and ballpark ticketholders, visitors, staff and employees.
