Miami Marlins name Brian Chase Vice President of Baseball Systems

MIAMI – The Miami Marlins today announced the hire of Brian Chase as Vice President of Baseball Systems.

In his role with the Marlins, Chase will lead the Baseball Systems group consisting of data engineering, machine learning engineering, software engineering, and software development. Chase and the Baseball Systems department will drive the development of technical infrastructure supporting Research and Development and the wider Baseball Operations group, positioning the department to thrive in the ever-evolving field of baseball data and analysis.

Chase joins the Marlins after spending the past three years with FanDuel as Director of Engineering (2021-24). In his role with FanDuel, Chase led strategy for FanDuel's retail sports betting business, overseeing all technical and operational capabilities across FanDuel's United States retail locations, serving as the strategic head of technology. Among other duties, he managed various teams of engineers and contractors who focused on hardware and datacenter procurement, software design, architecture, and engineering.

Prior to FanDuel, Chase worked as the Director of Engineering for Baseball Data at Major League Baseball for two years (2019-21). At MLB, Chase served as a technical and managerial leader for baseball data, statistics, and products. Chase worked as a principal software engineer and engineered testing tools for MLB products, such as StatsAPI, Statcast, and Rally.

Chase obtained a Master of Business Administration, Entertainment, Media & Technology and Business Analytics from New York University’s Stern School of Business, and also earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (Troy, N.Y.).
