Mets agree to terms with 27 international players

FLUSHING, N.Y., January 16, 2023 – The New York Mets today announced that the club has agreed to terms with 27 international players.

“We are honored and excited to welcome these young men into the organization,” said Vice President of Amateur and International Scouting, Tommy Tanous. “This is always one of my favorite days of the year as this marks the start of these players’ professional career. I want to give thanks to Steve and Alex Cohen, Director of International Scouting Steve Barningham, General Manager Billy Eppler, our scouting staff and the entire organization for their continued support. I also want to recognize the families of the players for making today possible.”

“Today is an important part for our organization’s continued strategy of long-term success,” said General Manager Billy Eppler. “I want to thank Tommy, Steve Barningham, and our entire international scouting department as well as everyone in the baseball operations department who spent countless hours making today a reality. I can’t wait for these players to start their journey to the big leagues.”

The class is highlighted by catcher Daiverson Gutierrez, who ranks 27th on MLB.com’s top 50 international list. He is joined by outfielder Anthony Baptist, who ranks 29th and INF Cristopher Larez, who places 43rd on the list.
