Mets acquire RHP Ryne Stanek

FLUSHING, N.Y., July 26, 2024 – The New York Mets today announced they have acquired RHP Ryne Stanek from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for minor league outfielder Rhylan Thomas. Stanek will join the major league team and a corresponding roster move will be announced later.

In 46 games this season, Stanek is 6-3 with seven saves, a 4.38 ERA (19 ER/39.0 IP), 17 walks and 44 strikeouts. He is holding right-handed hitters to a .213 (18-80) average with five extra-base hits. Stanek has appeared in eight major league seasons with the Rays, Marlins, Astros and Mariners, posting a 16-17 career record with 11 saves, a 3.54 ERA (152 ER/386.0 IP), 192 walks and 450 strikeouts.

Stanek has appeared in 23 career Postseason games, going 3-0 with a 2.70 ERA (6 ER/20.0 IP) with six walks and 21 strikeouts. He was a member of the 2022 World Series Champion Houston Astros, recording a 1.15 ERA (7 ER/54.2 IP) in 59 regular season games before appearing in the ALDS, ALCS and World Series.

Thomas was selected by the Mets in the 11th round of the 2022 First-Year Player Draft out of USC.
