Mets acquire outfielder Jose Siri from Tampa Bay

FLUSHING, N.Y., November 19, 2024 – The New York Mets today announced they have acquired outfielder Jose Siri from Tampa Bay in exchange for RHP Eric Orze.

Siri, 29, had 16 doubles, 18 homers, 47 RBI and 14 stolen bases in 130 games with the Rays last season. He had a 1.8 WAR according to Baseball Reference. The 6-2, 210-pounder was tied for second among all outfielders in runs prevented and outs above average according to MLB Statcast. Additionally, he also ranked ninth in the majors in sprint speed last season according to MLB Statcast.

The Sabana Grande de Boya, DR native set career highs with 58 runs, 25 home runs and 56 RBI in 2023 with Tampa Bay. Siri had 18 homers from May-July, tied for the third-most in the American League, behind Shohei Ohtani (32) and Luis Robert Jr (24).

Siri has played parts of four years in the majors with Houston and Tampa Bay. He has 42 doubles, six triples, 54 homers, 136 RBI and 43 stolen bases in 356 games.

Orze, 27, made his major league debut in 2024 going 0-1 in two games. He was originally drafted by the Mets in the fifth round of the 2020 First-Year Player Draft.
