Miami Marlins acquire RHP John Curtiss from Tampa Bay

MIAMI – The Miami Marlins today acquired RHP John Curtiss from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for INF Evan Edwards.

Curtiss, 27, appeared in 17 games with the Rays last season, going 3-0 with two saves (two save opportunities) and a 1.80 ERA. He posted 25 strikeouts to just three walks in 25.0 innings of work. Curtiss made nine postseason relief appearances in 2020, including three in the World Series, going 1-0 with 2.70 ERA (3.1 IP/1 ER). His 1.08 BB/9 and 8.33 SO/BB ranked third and sixth, respectively, among all relievers (min. 15 GP).

A sixth-round pick by the Minnesota Twins from the University of Texas in 2014, Curtiss has pitched in four Major League seasons with the Twins and Tampa Bay Rays. He is 3-1 with a 3.83 ERA in 35 career games.

To make room on the 40-man roster, OF Harold Ramirez was designated for assignment.
