Kyle Schwarber of the Philadelphia Phillies named National League Player of the Week presented by Chevrolet; Gunnar Henderson of the Baltimore Orioles named American League Player of the Week presented by Chevrolet

Philadelphia Phillies designated hitter Kyle Schwarber has been selected the National League Player of the Week presented by Chevrolet, and Baltimore Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson has been named the American League Player of the Week presented by Chevrolet. The announcements were made earlier today on MLB Network.

Schwarber claimed his second career award after previously winning on June 21, 2021 as a member of the Washington Nationals. Overall, it is the fourth award for the Phillies this season after his teammates Trea Turner won on April 22nd and August 19th, and Alec Bohm won on April 29th. Henderson also earned his second career honor after winning on June 12th last season during his AL Jackie Robinson Rookie of the Year campaign. He is the third Orioles player to earn honors this season after his teammates Colton Cowser and Jordan Westburg claimed back-to-back awards on April 15th and 22nd.

ELECTRIC PLAY OF THE WEEK PRESENTED BY CHEVROLET
Epic Home Run Robbery By Jose Siri of the Tampa Bay Rays
September 7th at Camden Yards – Watch It Here

Center fielder Jose Siri of the Rays earned his first career Play of the Week Award. It is the Rays fourth overall honor and their first since Isaac Paredes and Taylor Walls won for their clutch double play last year on June 12th. Leading 2-0 in the fourth inning, Gunnar Henderson hit a ball deep to center field that would have given Baltimore a 3-2 lead if not for Siri’s heroics to end the inning. Additional Play of the Week candidates included Brenton Doyle’s game-ending double play; Wyatt Langford’s game-ending home run robbery; Austin Slater’s game-ending diving catch; Jose Iglesias’ smooth stop to start the double play; and Kutter Crawford’s off-balance throw for the out.
