Fans will have the chance to celebrate Edgar Martinez’s induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame during special events at T-Mobile Park the weekend of August 9-11, vs. Tampa Bay Rays.
Friday, August 9
Edgar Martinez Hall of Fame Weekend gets started on Friday with the first 40,000 fans through the gates receiving a bobblehead with Edgar holding his Hall of Fame plaque.
Edgar’s actual Hall of Fame bronze plaque will be on display at T-Mobile Park during the games on Friday and Saturday. There is also a free viewing from 11:00am-2:00pm Saturday for fans who do not have tickets to one of the games. Timed entry registration is required at Marines.com/HOFPlaque.
Saturday, August 10
A pregame ceremony in Edgar’s honor will include members of the Mariners Hall of Fame as well as Hall of Famers from other sports as well as arts. The ceremony starts at 6:30 p.m. (7:10 p.m. first pitch).
Special guests include Ken Griffey Jr., Alvin Davis, Dan Wilson and Marilyn Niehaus. Also scheduled to appear are Seattle Seahawks legends and NFL Hall of Famers Steve Largent, Kenny Easley and Walter Jones, former Seattle SuperSonic Jack Sikma, NBA Hall of Fame Class of 2019, Kasey Keller, former Sounders FC goalkeeper and member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame, and Duff McKagan, who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with fellow Guns N’ Roses bandmates in 2012.
In addition to the pregame ceremony, the first 40,000 fans will receive a replica of Edgar’s Hall of Fame plaque.
Sunday, August 11
Hall of Fame Weekend concludes with a pregame roundtable, presented by T-Mobile, with Edgar and fellow Mariners Hall of Famers Alvin Davis, Ken Griffey Jr. and Dan Wilson, Mariners Athletic Trainer Emeritus Rick Griffin and the Voice of the Mariners Rick Rizzs, moderated by T-Mobile Park public address announcer Tom Hutyler. The program starts at approximately 12:20pm. After the panel, Edgar and representatives of T-Mobile will take part in a special presentation to the Edgar Martinez Endowment for Muscular Dystrophy at Seattle Children’s, following which, Edgar will throw out the game’s ceremonial first pitch.
Following the game, 40,000 fans will receive a replica Edgar Martinez Drive South street sign. The stretch of South Atlantic Street that borders the south side of T-Mobile Park was renamed in Edgar’s honor in March2005 by then-Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels. (Signs will be distributed to fans on exit from the game.)
During all three games, Mariners players will wear commemorative patches on their jersey sleeves and game balls and bases will feature a special Hall of Fame Weekend logo. Souvenir baseballs will be available at Mariners Team Stores and game-used bases and other authentic memorabilia will be offered for auction at MLB.com/Auctions.
Tickets for Edgar’s Hall of Fame Weekend, and all remaining games on the Mariners 2019 home schedule, are available at Mariners.com/Tickets, at Mariners Team Stores, the T-Mobile Park ticket office and by phone at 1-888-SEA-HITS.
