Dodgers to host adult softball camp at Dodger Stadium on Sept. 29

LOS ANGELES – The Dodgers will host an adult softball camp on the field at Dodger Stadium on Sunday, September 29. The event will give fans 18 and over a chance to live out their big league dreams alongside current Dodger broadcaster and Olympic gold medalist Jessica Mendoza and fellow gold medalist Natasha Watley. Fans can reserve their spot at the camp by visiting Dodgers.com/softball.

Participants will be provided with a personalized locker in the clubhouse and a customized jersey, and will have exclusive use of Dodgers facilities, including the batting cage, training room and the field. Warmups and fielding drills will take place before players partake in a fastpitch game on the Major League field, on teams coached by Mendoza and Watley. Players will also have the opportunity to attend a Q&A session with Mendoza and Watley while lunch is served. The camp will provide lasting memories for all, including Dodger gifts, swag and a keepsake photo package.

“We’re thrilled to launch the first Dodger Stadium Adult Softball Camp,” said Chris Koenig, Executive Director, Dodgers 365. “We are even more excited to partner with softball legends Jessica Mendoza and Natasha Watley, who will bring a unique insight into the game for campers to learn and play alongside.”

Campers will be coached and led by Mendoza, current commentator for the Dodgers SportsnetLA broadcast team. The local standout from Camarillo was an outfielder at Stanford University and played with Team USA from 2003-2008, claiming the gold medal at the Olympic Games in Athens (2004) and silver medal in Beijing (2008). She has since turned her love of the game into a broadcasting career, calling games on ESPN for Sunday Night Baseball, the Women’s College World Series and Little League World Series. In 2015, she became the first woman to serve as an analyst for a nationally televised Major League Baseball game on ESPN.

Watley, who played on both Olympic teams with Mendoza, will also serve as a coach. As a shortstop at UCLA, she led her team to victory in the 2003 NCAA National Championship. Watley played professionally for eight years in the National Pro Fastpitch league and also played overseas for Team Toyota in Japan. In 2009, she founded the Natasha Watley Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing softball to inner cities. Both teammates have been inducted to their university’s respective Hall of Fames and were each four-time All-Americans in college.
