Dodgers select Ben Casparius
LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Ben Casparius and designated right-handed pitcher Brent Honeywell Jr. for assignment.
Casparius, 25, will join the big-league team for the first time in his career. He started the season with Tulsa, going 2-1 with a 3.32 ERA in five Double-A starts before being promoted to Triple-A on May 7. With the Oklahoma City club, he went 3-3 with a 3.54 ERA and 61 strikeouts in 56.0 innings. He has spent four minor league seasons in the Dodgers’ organization, going 13-17 with 335 strikeouts in 281.0 innings. He was originally drafted by the Dodgers in the fifth round of the 2021 First Year Player Draft out of the University of Connecticut.
Honeywell, 29, pitched last night, allowing one run in 2.0 innings of work. In 10 games for the Dodgers, he went 0-1 with a 2.21 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 20.1 innings. He has been in the Major Leagues parts of three seasons with Tampa Bay (2021), San Diego (2023), Chicago-AL (2023), Pittsburgh (2024) and Los Angeles (2024) and he is a combined 2-5 with a 4.26 ERA in 55 games (three starts). The Georgia native was originally drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays with the 72nd pick of the 2014 First Year Player Draft out of Walters State Community College.
