Dodgers recall J.P. Feyereisen and select Michael Petersen
LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers have recalled right-handed pitcher J.P. Feyereisen, selected the contract of Michael Petersen and placed right-handed pitchers Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Michael Grove on the injured list. In order to make room for Petersen on the 40-man roster, right-handed pitcher Joe Kelly was transferred to the 60-day injured list.
Feyereisen, 31, has made nine appearances for the Dodgers this season, posting a 6.00 ERA with eight strikeouts in nine innings. He has not allowed an earned run in seven straight appearances, notching 7.2 scoreless frames with seven strikeouts. He has been in the Major Leagues parts of four seasons with Milwaukee (2020-2021), Tampa Bay (2021-2022) and Los Angeles (2024) and he is a combined 8-5 with a 2.95 ERA and five saves. He was originally drafted by the Cleveland Guardians in the 16th round of the 2014 First Year Player Draft out the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
Petersen, 31, has appeared in 23 games for the Oklahoma City Dodgers with a perfect 2-0 record and a 1.61 ERA. He has 31 strikeouts in 22.1 innings and has held hitters to a career-best .128 batting average this season. He has pitched in the minor leagues for eight seasons, tossing 263 innings in 167 games (18 starts) with a 10-11 record and 4.04 ERA. The Middlesex, England native is looking to make his Major League debut. He was originally drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 17th round of the 2015 First Year Player Draft out of Riverside Community College.
Yamamoto, 25, hits the IL for the first time in his career with triceps tightness. He made the start last night, tossing 2.0 scoreless innings before exiting in the game. Prior to the injury, he had tossed 13 straight scoreless innings and was 1-0 with a 0.60 ERA in the month of June. On the season, he is 6-2 with a 2.92 ERA and 84 strikeouts in 74 innings. The three-time Pacific League Most Valuable Player, Eiji Sawamura Award, and a three-time Triple Crown winner was signed by the Dodgers on December 27, 2023.
Grove, 27, will miss time with a right intercostal strain. The right-hander tossed 2.0 innings last night, striking out three and allowing one earned run. On the season, he has made 28 appearances (two starts), allowing 21 runs in 37.1 innings with 45 strikeouts. He is in his third season with Los Angeles and he is a combined 7-6 with a 5.51 ERA and 142 strikeouts in 135.2 innings. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the second round of the 2018 First Year Player Draft out of West Virginia University.
